Lead, IT Applications Development and Support

Job Overview

The successful incumbent will be responsible for planning, coordinating, leading and participating in all activities related to the design, development and implementation of Kingston Midstream’s software applications, systems and platforms.  The incumbent will also lead/provide the maintenance, support and upgrading of existing applications and systems (particularly Kingston Midstream’s Oil Movement Management suite of applications).  The successful incumbent will also provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to the Application Development and Support team members to achieve successful attainment of goals and deliverables.

Position Responsibilities  

  • Maintain Kingston Midstream’s custom Oil Movement Manager applications.  Maintain all custom applications, data interfaces, and reporting built on the Microsoft framework/platform
  • Manage the development and deployment of new custom applications, systems software, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise
  • Build a strong relationship with business partners by developing an in-depth understanding of the partners’ business needs, processes, data, and issues; and firm understanding of how changes in one business unit will affect other areas
  • Ensure that development projects meet business requirements and goals, fulfill end-user requirements
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to staff consisting of employees and contractors
  • Lead problem analysis and issue resolution
  • Technical requirements, system/application architecture and application design
  • Create and formalize Kingston Midstream’s software development life cycle/methodology, architectural design & development framework, and in-house coding standards by leveraging industry best practices. Ensure that all aspects of the system development life cycle are followed
  • Create detailed documentation for SDLC processes, technical architecture, and technical support for new/existing applications (logical and physical diagrams)
  • Participate in development of the business systems strategy & roadmaps, architecture, DR Plans and applicable policies & procedures to ensure they are aligned with broader business and technology objectives
  • Make recommendations on products, services, platforms or innovation roadmaps that contribute business value

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science or a related IT discipline
  • Minimum 15 years of IT experience as a business analyst
  • Proven experience as a Leader of an Application Development & Support teams is essential
  • Experience in a corporate oil & gas or midstream business environment would be an asset
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and is tactful when under pressure
  • Strong technical analysis skills, verbal/written communications skills, interpersonal skills, facilitation skills, and client relationship skills are requirements for this position. Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Certification in .net (C#) is required
  • SQL Server Certification is required
  • Certification in Java and TomCat is required
  • Experience in developing MVC applications
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure virtual environments, Microsoft’s Entity Framework, Microsoft Reporting Services, Microsoft Integration Services is required
  • Midstream Pipeline business domain experience with oil movement and ticketing systems knowledge
  • Highly self-motivated and directed. Prefers working in a high performing, team-oriented, dynamic and evolving IT team environment
  • This role will require periodic travel to our field offices as required
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada without sponsorship
